A perl-script which generates text files to describe files in directories.
Quite handy if you run your own ftp-server as you can give your users an
idea about what that certain file is all about. It processes directories
recursively.
Should run well on all Unix flavours.
This thing is so simple that I believe it doesn't require any documentation.
Just run the perl-script, it'll tell you how to invoke it correctly. The
script now uses simple text files where you can describe each file/directory.
It further generates *.dead files which list files/directories which do
not exist on your filesystem and *.unknown files which contain all the
files not being described by you yet. This procedure should make maintenance
of your descriptions easier...
Look at a sample-output of the
script. If there's no description for one of the files, I wasn't motivated
yet to enter it. This means the script will still list the file, but will
not show any description.
Get the gzipped tarball. Unpack it and for a quick-start, try: ./ftplist . desc
